As India got its independence in 1947, It paved new opportunities in the field of science and technology. As a young nation, with all the young guns ready for action; Bit Sindri was founded in 1949 in Patna(Bihar) as the College with disciplines in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. Fluctuations with Several Universities
At the beginning year of BIT Sindri. The first university to manage its curriculum and academics was Patna University. Later in 1960, when Ranchi University (RU) was established took control of BITs’ all-around development. Later on, when academics were taken seriously in the sub-urbs of Jharkhand. A budding University named Vinoba Bhave laid its foundation in September 1992, In order to achieve great heights the university was granted the prestige of Jharkhand, which is none other than Bit Sindri. To keep up with the pace, modernization is the key. Thus to compete with the IITs, NITs a new commission was formed to promote BIT to achieve success and solitude. The Jharkhand University of Technology, the first technical university of Jharkhand pooled the various technical colleges of the state to uplift their status just like BIT and NIT.
Things you should know: Name wasn’t the same
In the beginning BIT Sindri stand for “Bihar Institute of technology” because its foundation is Patna; which is the capital of Bihar State. But later on in the year 2000; The state was formed with 18 districts that were formerly part of south BIHAR. It was the Governments order not to change the name of the college. In honor of the BIRSA MUNDA(the famous tribal freedom fighter) name of the college changed. Now BIT stands for “Birsa Institute of Technology”.

Not an ordinary campus
The government of Jharkhand blessed the institution with a massive landmass of 700 acres. The institute is 28 km from Dhanbad Town, which is easily accessible by either rail or road. Just a chunk of land which is,400-acre on the eastern bank of the Damodar River. The campus has 27 hostels, with separate hostels for boys and girls, to accommodate the residential needs of approximately 3000 undergraduate, postgraduate, and research students. The campus even has a railway station just outside the back gate. It makes it easy for the students and the professors to travel to Dhanbad.

Unusual Roads in the College
The names of the roads nearby Bit Sindri are quite unique. There is a road known as MURGA road which connects boys hostel to girls hostel; as freshers use it and they are pretty scared with the ragging scenario. Thus they use this road and it’s hence known as Murga Road. The road near the senior hostels is known as TIGER ROAD; they are seniors and they are the boss. That’s why it’s known as Tiger Road.
